Black flies be gone!

Living in Central Maine black flies are the norm. No matter if you are in city limits or in the country or woods. But just because we are Mainers, its doesn't mean we like them! Not all of us are backwoods and love all types of nature. Personally, I like them dead! But since I have a "everything deserves to live" daughter, I scoured Pintrest to see what I could find to help keep these annoying things away.

I came across alot of posts about baggies, water and pennies. So I showed my daughter and got her approval to try. Apparently it just does some kind of reflection thing and scares the flies away.

We took 2 ziplock baggies, filled them 1/2 way with water and put 5 pennies in each one and zipped them shut. We hung them up outside the front and back door.

You cant really see the pennies but they are there.

Heres hoping it works. We are only on day 3 so if it doesnt work,
Im sure you will see another post with another try!

el's Cheddar Medleys review

I was recently sent a bag of el's cheddar Medleys to try. OMGoh! Yummy! It even passed my 5 year old twins personal review! Considering how picky they are, thats a full compliment! The snacks are gluten free and there is a variety to choose from. Here is a bit about the company and the products.

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and sometimes oats, and it can interfere with your ability to absorb necessary nutrients from food. People with Celiac really need to avoid gluten, but a lot of other people are choosing to avoid gluten as well.

Celiac's cause is unknown and may show up at any age. It  is an autoimmune disorder of the small intestine that occurs ingenetically predisposed people of all ages from middle infancy onward. Symptoms include pain and discomfort in the digestive tract, chronic constipation and diarrhoeafailure to thrive (in children), and fatigue, but these may be absent, and symptoms in other organ systems have been described. Vitamin deficiencies are often noted in people with coeliac disease owing to the reduced ability of the small intestine to properly absorb nutrients from food. It can result in osteoporosis, thyroid disease, infertility and cancer. It's important to know that Celiac is a disease, not a food allergy, and ought to be treated as such.

Others, who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome or symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, bloating and gas, often find relief when avoiding gluten. Even people who are depressed or moody may feel significant relief when eliminating gluten from their diet.

You can buy off el's kitchen homepage,

Sam Dickinson Review

I love Soul and Jazz music. I would rather hang out in a Jazz and Blues place than a club with pounding music. My dad was a big influencer in my music choices. I grew up listening to music of the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's. I love the beat the sway and the meaning behind the words. Back then music came from the heart and it ment something to people. Now, to me, music has seemed to have lost something. There's alot of sex, violence and illegal things that are glorified and sung about and sometimes you cant understand what your listening to.

I was given the chance to review the music of Sam Dickinson. He is a 25 year old from Newcastle Upon Tyne who sings Soul.

It takes alot to impress me. I thought "just another wanna be". But as I started listening, I was surprised. Happily so. As soon as he started to sing I was reminded of a Blues Club I had been to in New York City. You can feel the words, not just hear them. You can sense that the words and the rythym are coming from within and are not just words off paper. Take a listen!

Good, right???? I think it, as we say in Maine, is wicked good!

Have another listen, and look.

You can follow Sam online at: Sam Dickinson on Facebook

I do not have a checking account. I will probably never have one. I honestly don't trust banks and their fees. I recently looked at my husbands bank information on fees and, OMG! They ranged from $5 to $45! That adds up! I'm always worried about overdrafts and extra fees with that too. Someone can get in really deep if they accidentally bounce one check! One can lead to 2 or 3 or more and if your fee is $25 per check, you can easily go $100 in the negative! It could take a week or more to get out of that hole! With credit history and bank information being important to credit scores and credit reports, a bounced check could cause more problems than some may think.

Thats why I like pre-paid debit cards. No over draft fee's. No late fees, no bounced checks. .

At cards.com you can choose any design! They have TV shows, cartoons, and states, as well as countries. Like Star Trek? Here you go!

Our family is HUGE on The Walking Dead. So of course, that's the card I chose!

It was easy to apply and I got an answer in less than a min. Since its pre paid, the money is your own, they don't deny you. They do not run a credit check. They only verify your identity information with a national database. This is not a credit check. It is only something they are required to do to comply with the PATRIOT Act.

You can link your Pay Pal to your card!

You can reload your card with MoneyPak or you can have direct deposit!

All  transactions are fully FDIC insured through The Bancorp Bank; Member FDIC. They are also protected with Visa’s zero liability policy, and are PCI Certified for data security and privacy. You receive the same level of security as you would get with a bank.

There is a monthly maintenance fee of $5.95 per month. But this is waived when you load at least $800  in the previous 30 days with direct deposit.

I got approved and about 1 week later, I had my card in hand. The card came on a neat card that had all the information I needed to activate and to set up direct deposit. Activation was simple! It took about 3 min to set it up and be ready to use. Easy Peasy!!

Traverse Bay Farms Fruit Salsa Review and Giveaway

Our family loves to watch movies. We love to snack when we watch them. One of our favorite things is chips and salsa.  I was given the opportunity to review Traverse Bay Farms salsa, and I jumped on it! We love to eat, cook and make salsa.

Here is a bit of background on them. This is an excerpt taken from their website:

Traverse Bay Farms was started by Jennifer LaPointe, a stay-at-home mom who was looking for a better way to encourage her family to eat healthier in spite of a busy schedule. She frequently visited local farm markets to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. During these visits, Jennifer discovered the many amazing health benefits of fruit for all generations. The idea of starting a gourmet fruit business based on healthy living and convenience took root. Traverse Bay Farms was born.

Backed by passion and the desire to offer a varied line of fruit-based products, her new company rapidly grew to offer the broadest selection of gourmet fruit and functional fruit products in the industry.

Traverse Bay Farms was the first company to offer convenient automatic monthly delivery of cherry juice concentrate, dried fruit and fruit supplements. Fruit Advantage (owned by Traverse Bay Farms) was the first brand created to offer a complete line of dietary supplements based solely on the antioxidant benefits of fruit.

The company is currently driven by Jennifer to be a leader in the “Fruit for a Healthy You” movement. It continues to offer innovative and exciting health products based on combining the antioxidant-rich benefits of fruit with the convenience required by today’s lifestyles.

They also have an eco-friendly policy. Here is another excerpt taken from their site:

Traverse Bay Farms is committed to “Going Green.”. Since our inception in 2001, we have been committed to “Going Green.” The core concept of our Green policy is to operate our business is an eco-friendly way, purchase local fruit, when possible, from local farmers to support local agriculture and recycle whenever possible.

Here are a few examples of their commitment to “Going Green”

~When possible, purchase local produce to produce our gourmet fruit products.
~100% of usable cardboard material is recycled.
~Ongoing support of eco-friendly and “green organizations and events”
~We support and attend an eco-friendly events located in
Hollywood Hills, CA, during the Academy Awards season.
~When applicable, use high-efficient, low energy bulbs, turn off lights
when not in use, use smart power strips for our computers,
copies, etc. in our warehouse and office location.
~When possible, our employees ride bikes and walk to work to save on
carbon emissions and gasoline usage.

Traverse Bay Farms also won 7 Scovie Awards at the 2011 Scovie Competition. In total, they took home 5 awards for their salsas and two for their fruit-based BBQ sauces.

I was so lucky to have been sent 2 jars of salsa, of my choosing, to taste and review. OMGosh they are good!!! I was sent the Pineapple and the Peach. They are both Medium flavor. The consistency is just right. It seems to be a little thinner than some salsas but that's ok. The chunks are perfectly small enough to get a bit of everything in every bite.

The yummy goodness in these jars in unbelievable!

Honestly the Peach is my favorite! The slight sweet aftertaste blends with the mild flavor that just implodes in your mouth!
The Pineapple, leaves a taste first and then the mildness hits and yummy on the tongue!

My husband was shocked that it tasted so good. He usually buys a jar salsa that costs about $9.00 and he was shocked to hear that these were only $6.95 a jar! When we are finished with these jars, I'm positive that we will be buying more.

They dont just have salsa. They also have:

Dried Fruit
Superfruit Suppliments

Chocolate Covered Fruits

Now the best part of this review! THE GIVEAWAY!!!! 2 lucky readers of my blog will each win 2 jars of salsa! When the contest is over, I will email the winners and they will have 24 hours to contact me back or another winner will be chosen. Good Luck!!!!!

~Debras Random Rambles is not responsible for the shipment or redeement of the prizes. The sponsor will ship to the winners. I was given 2 jars of salsa for my honest review. All of the opinions I have expressed are my own.~
