CAUTION! WOMENS TOPIC! Men, if your looking for inside info, here ya go!

Aunt Flo – Aunt Flo and cousin Red – cousin Red
– crimson wave – delicate – flow – get redwings –
have the painters in – in her flowers – late –
on the blob – on the rag – rag – red tide –
ride the cotton pony – Sally – shark week –
surf the crimson wave – that time of the month –
time of the month – women's trouble

What do all of these things have in common? They relate to a womans period. Yep this taboo topic is my post today. Why in the world am I posting this? Trying to break the taboo. Having a monthly isnt a bad thing. Its nature. It should be looked at a natural thing.  The part I hate tho is the hormonal part! Sometimes I curse the Biblical Eve who started it all. (Sorry to offend anyone who doesn't believe in the Bible, but I do.)

The hormonal part SUCKS! We all know the basics that it happens every 28 or so days and last for up to a week part. We even know about the "no pregnancy" proof and the shedding of all the unnecessary "stuff" thing. Our moms weather we are female or male have explained the basics to us. What Im saying today is the part most are not prepared for. The hormones!

The changes in hormonal levels may produce some emotional and behavioral menstrual cycle changes in some women sometimes these can be severe! Not every woman experiences these changes, but some do and at a greater level.

PMS affects 30% to 80% of women. Psychological symptoms of PMS include:
  • Depression
  • Sensitivity to rejection
  • Sense of feeling overwhelmed
  • Social withdrawal
  • Anger
  •  Irritability
  • Anxiety
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, or PMDD, is a more severe form of PMS. It affects 3% to 8% percent of women. Symptoms of PMDD include:
  • Severe irritability
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Mood swings
My research, as a mom, had me finding things that were kinda scary. Girls can have symptoms of PMS before they actually start. They can begin to show them as soon as 8-9. Because of society changes and other factors, some girls have started their periods even before their 10th birthday. Im wondering if this is why my youngest daughter has been acting PMS like for a month or so now  Scary!! These girls are having all the hormonal changes of puberty before they can even understand it.

The mental hardship of PMS an PMDD is hard enough on adult women who go thru it. Its hard on their significant others as well. Sometimes they have no idea what has hit their woman.

I welcome comments on the topic. I know this isn't my typical post, but the hormones in my house right now are horrific! I know Im not alone in my frustration.
