Book Review: Runaway Emotions by: Jeff Schreve

I was given the opportunity to read and review the book Runaway Emotions. I was not too sure about its philosophy on a few topics but I decided to read it anyway and try to see his perspective. The book goes over eight topics:

Embarrassment
Loneliness
Frustration
Worry
Anger Guilt
Discontentment
Depression

While I liked and agreed with most of what Mr Schreve wrote, the only topic I have some disagreement with is the depression. I have personally suffered from depression. I had Pos-Partum with several of my children and definitely had it bad after my twins were born. My spiritual needs were being met and I don't think God gave me depression. It was a chemical imbalance that with the proper medication, corrected itself. Prayer and looking inward does not cure depression. Sometimes you need the help from medicine.

On a better note: Mr Schreve throws in little comparisons and quotes to liven up the topic. My favorite is under the topic Loneliness. He states about Elvis singing "I'm so lonesome I could cry" on page 30. And then adds that even Elvis knew about loneliness!

Jeff is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Business Administration.  After spending twelve years in sales, God called Jeff to preach.  He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in  2000 with a Master of Divinity degree and is working to finish his Doctor of Ministry studies. He is currently at  First Baptist Texarkana as Senior Pastor.

Pastor Schreve believes it is a shame for a preacher to be boring. You can learn more about his and his ministry at the following link. From His Heart Ministries.

As always, my opinions on this review are my own. I was not compensated in any way. I was sent a copy of this book for reviewing only.
